This has me bugged out. We just posted a story on Diddy’s son Justin who is now receiving flak by various critics and news sources over the $54,000 athletic/merit-based scholarship that he earned with his 3.7 GPA. Many people are wondering why the son of a millionaire wouldn’t offer up a sum like that to a “needy” child who can’t afford college. At the end of the day, it’s HIS money, that HE earned, for HIS hard work.
UCLA responded yesterday with the following statement:
“There’s a misconception out there that somehow athletic scholarships would take away money from low-income students who need need-based aid,” school spokesman Ricardo Vazquez said. “That’s not the case. Athletic scholarships are awarded strictly on the basis of athletic and academic ability.”
Justin graduated with a 3.7 GPA from Iona Prep (in New Rochelle) and was awarded many football merits in his high school career. Justin even made the All American team this year! Last night, amidst all the controversy brewing on CNN over his scholarship, he tweeted:
Regardless what the circumstances are, I put that work in!!!! PERIOD. Regardless of what you do in life every1 is gonna have their own opinion. Stay focused, keep that tunnel vision & never 4get why u started.
Justin’s mother Misa Hylton, had more words of encouragement for him today.
My Son is his own man. He will earn his own way through life. I’m so proud of my baby ♥ it starts now! He is exactly the young man I raised him to be ☺ #independent #hardworking #intelligent
I think this criticism is nothing short of stupid. Justin worked his tail off for that scholarship. And one thing people keep forgetting is that there is a huge difference between a “need-based” scholarship and a “merit-based” scholarship. Whether you’re poor, or well off.. if you have a 3.7 GPA and your school rewards you for it, there is nothing wrong with that. Give a man credit when credit is due for God’s sake! Congrats Justin, the whole site is proud of you.
