There are 8 teams left in the NCAA Tournament:
Midwest Region Finals (2) Kansas vs (1)UNC
South Region Finals (3)Baylor vs (1)Kentucky
East Region Finals (2)OSU vs (1)Syracuse
West Region Finals (7)Florida vs (4)Louisville, the lowest seeding teams to battle for the Final Four spot. And neither teams were picked out of millions to be in the the Regional Finals anyway. According to ESPN, only 6.8% picked Louisville to reach the Final Four and 2.4% picked Florida. This is dramatically low compared to the 58% that picked UNC and 68% that picked Kentucky.
In previous tournaments, the 23 – 10 Gators have been to the Final Four 4 times and out of those 4 times, went further winning the championship in 2006 and 2007. This will be 29 - 9 Louisville’s 2nd appearance to the Final Four, under coach Rick Pitino, if they win tonight vs Gators at 4:30pm EST. Louisville Cardinals have been to the tournament 37 times, total of 8 Final Four appearances but have only won 2 championships more than 25 years ago (1980, 1986). But what’s very interesting about this matchup is that Louisville’s coach Pitino coached Gators coach Donovan, back in 1987, where Donovan was a point guard at Providence University and Pitino the head coach.
By the way, when it comes to brackets, President Obama’s bracket got 6 out of these 8 teams right; he’s in the 98.8th percentile with the 3 Final Four teams he predicted and his championship team picks are still alive.
