NEWS: Isaac Becomes A Hurricane As It Threatens The Gulf Coast Seven Years After Katrina
It’s official: Isaac is a hurricane.
The storm’s winds cranked up to 75 mph Tuesday, crossing the threshold to hurricane classification as Isaac rolled across the Gulf of Mexico toward land.
A hurricane hunter aircraft measured the maximum winds generated by the mix of the raging storm and the warm, wide open waters off the Gulf Coast.
Isaac is still not expected to make landfall until late Tuesday or early Wednesday — most likely in southeast Louisiana. The hurricane could pick up even stronger winds as it heads toward the coast.
