Legendary filmmaker Spike Lee recently scoffed off Hollywood and complained that he couldn’t get his dream projects to be greenlit. While Spike never saw his Joe Lewis biopic, Jackie Robinson biopic, James Brown biopic and “Inside Man” sequel come to life, he was recently confirmed to remake the 2003 Korean thriller “Oldboy”. But in a surprising announcement, Spike Lee took to Twitter to announce that he began shooting his latest Spike Lee joint today.
Wake Up. I been up since 430am. On the way to the set of THE NEW SPIKE LEE JOINT.Today is 1st Day of Shooting.Awwwwwwwwwwww Sheeeeeeeeeeeeet
The announcement caught many off guard but the folks over at Black Film were on it! Black Film reported that the film would be called “Red Hook Summer” and focus on the story of a man from Atlanta coming to spend his Summer in Brooklyn. But here’s where it gets good. Whispers are stating that Spike Lee will reprise his role as Mookie from “Do The Right Thing”! It’s unclear whether he’d be playing Mookie circa 1989 or Mookie today but the news is cool. With “Oldboy” being confirmed and his new joint starting production today, Spike will be one busy man in the next couple of years. About time we see a new Spike Lee joint on its way to cinemas. The last Spike Lee joint to hit theaters was the WWII war drama “Miracle at St. Anna”.
